quaker

the earth supposedly quaked here, slightly. possibly the water gurgled a bit, off the shores of oahu, friday morning.

if i felt it, i never realized it was an earthquake. but that's not surprising, since it was no biggy, as far as earthquakes go, only 4.1 on the quaker scale.

besides, this is downtown chinatown honolulu and my abode is a multi-twenty-something-story tower, so things are always swaying and rumbling in my world.

at the time of the quake, i probably just thought it was a rubbish truck emptying a dumpster, or dock sounds from across the thoroughfare at pier 13 in the honolulu harbor, and passed it off as normal city noise and vibration. i don't remember feeling anything moving abnormally.

but that's ok. i sensated my share of earthquakes in seattle while living there and have no urge to re-experience those feelings.

as earthquakes go, this latest one we've all now survived was quite boring actually. there wasn't even a resulting tsunami. i haven't inspected closely as of yet, but i dare say there are few, if any, new cracks in the sidewalks to be concerned with avoiding next time i take a stroll to where ever.

maybe the quake was a warning -- get prepared for the big one to strike sometime soon, or far in the future, when we least expect it.

after all, whether we like it or not, mother nature always gets the last laugh. let us hope.
