dancing with dragons
residing in chinatown can be adventurous at times. this month was chinese new year. it is now year of the boar, also called year of the pig. those born under the year of the piggish boar include me. it seems the chinese lunar zodiac runs in twelve year cycles and 1959, the year i was born, is the pig cycle.
i was even forced to fight dragons during this year's celebration. i thought the party was over on the previous evening, but the next day, when i went downstairs to get something to eat at a nearby thai food place, i found myself in the center of yet another parade. it was like nyc times square on dec. 31, too many people. when i tried to cross the street to get to the eatery i had to dodge dancing dragons, in a manner of speaking. it was so exciting....
and the week before all that happened, mom and dad came to visit. they brought my younger brother's three daughters, two teens and one post-teen. it was a good vacation for us all. but at last, it's nice to be back to abnormal. thank goodness, the excitement is over, for now.
