old year

happy old year. this is the end of 2005, good-bye, so-long, farewell.

hopefully, i will now rarely hear someone say, "two-thousand and five." when they should simply have said "twenty oh-five."

people didn't say "one thousand nine-hundred and ninety-nine." they said "nineteen, ninety-nine."

what comes after nineteen?

twenty, not two-thousand.

i can understand the novelty, the change in century, blah, blah. i got caught up in the y2k hype for a while.

but enough is enough. five years is long enough. let's begin this year the correct way.

exit 2005 (two-thousand and five).

enter 2006 (twenty oh-six).

no more nukes

it's a celebration, a rite of passage. the microwave embedded in my apartment died with a whimper a few days ago and i'm glad. now its rotten corpse is gone and in that old atomic spewer's location, a plant resides dead center.

a plant is a much more pleasant thing to behold than a microwave oven. i barely considered replacing the monster with another equally horrific appliance, as i have what seems like dozons of times before. as each day passes i realize it would be a waste of time, money and space, ethics and logic.
